development and final environment

For this final design I wanted to give the impression of a uninhabited planet so I chose to design a desert like environment.

For the shape of the environment design I wanted to make a landscape which would rough and rugged (rocky environment.

final ship design

For the colours of my final alien spaceship I wanted to stick to the typical colours which are use for aliens. Green, blue, grey & black, ( this excluded the this excluded the red and golden-orange used for the ships engine and windows).

alien space ship development

For the development of the spaceship I looked into various types of typical U.F.O'S but also thought of adding thrusters to the back of the ship, which took influence from the ships off of the tv programme, 'star trek'.

final alien

This is my final design going for a dark green, red and purple colour arrangement.

robot final design

For the final design of the robot I wanted to create a character which had a simple colour scheme but didn't give the impression of being too dull.

robot mesh view development

In the programme maya I developed the shape of the robot following my first design. The only thing I changed was the size of the front legs, (I made them slightly small than what was shown in the development).

mesh view development

These are examples of the work in progress of how the alien will be, shape wise. For this character I followed the same sort of designs shown in my development of the crustacean aliens.

robot development

Following the research of the robot body parts, I wanted to develop a character which had influence of the spider look with the legs but still keeping to the one eye look shown in my research.

In this particular example of development I wanted to something a little different, by adding more eyes & less legs (variation of the previous two developments and earlier research).

alien development

In these examples I have developed my alien character following the influences of my crustacean alien research. In particular from the research of the aliens in the movie "district 9".

Further research 2 of the alien

In these examples I have looked further into head and body shape ( any lump or bumps anywhere, and skin being like crustaceans. Also here there are examples of possible eye looks/shapes.

body parts of robot

For this particular research of the robot  I wanted to focus mainly on the eyes and legs of my robot design. I had decided I wanted a robot which had a spider look to it, for the legs. Following the spider look, I wanted to have a robot which its legs were adjustable. However for the eyes, unlike a spider which has several eyes, I wanted to go for a singular eye which is found in games like portal & in this example.

further alien research

In this part of my research I have moved away from the typical alien sort of look and started to go more into more advanced and dynamic looking aliens ( much more colour and features added to them).

Alien research

I started off by researching  different possible variations of the typical Alien for one of my characters I would make for this project.
(wider faces)

(Longer necks and faces)

(Missing mouth & lump on the head)

(more wrinkled)

Proposal

Advanced project proposal

For this particular project I have decided to choose the ‘writing Brief’ to which I have chosen the category of making a comic book. For this particular option I have made the decision to make a three dimensional comic book to which I may decide to include elements of the character used in my last project but changed up a little bit from the last (another variation of the character). The characters included will all fit into the sci-fi genre possibly ranging from more organic looking characters like aliens to more robotic characters, furthermore there will be around two or three characters made. Creating these characters from scratch on Photoshop may prove difficult so I will probably use applications such as Maya, Cinema 4D etc to create and adapt these 3D characters and environments. Although I am not using Photoshop create the main designs for the comic book images I will probably use it to add effects and finalize the images. In creating these scenes I intend to try and convey an emotional response/attachment between the main character and the audience.

For inspiration I will do research looking through various images on the Internet and magazines which are relevant to my theme and also develop concept art to give a feel of how my environment and characters will look through my sketchbook. These ideas at a later date can be implemented into my 3D models.

Over the next few weeks up to the middle of March I will be developing characters and environments, and after then moving towards finalizing my storyboards for my comic book.

My blog that I will be making will be updated over the next few months on a weekly basis to which I will include the research, development and also finals, not only that but I will be discussing the problems and tasks I’ll face followed by the resolutions.
